What it is, and what it isn't
Every brief is built from open government data, fetched when you open it. It's meant to help you ask better questions before you buy, rent, renovate or redevelop.
It is not an appraisal, a home inspection, a survey, a title search, or legal, financial or tax advice. Assessed values are the City's estimates for property tax, not sale prices. Open data can be incomplete, out of date or wrong, so confirm anything important with the City, the seller, a lawyer, an inspector or another professional.
Where the data comes from
- City of Calgary Open Data: assessments, land use, flood maps, permits, suites, rezoning, schools, transit, short-term rentals, business licences, parks and recreation, pipes, wards, heritage and more. Used under the City of Calgary Open Data Terms of Use.
- Government of Alberta: provincial flood hazard maps from the Flood Hazard Identification Program. Contains information licensed under the Open Government Licence – Alberta.
- Statistics Canada: the 2021 Census, through the City's community profiles and Equity Index.
- CMHC: Rental Market Survey rents and vacancy for the Calgary area, used in the investor calculator.
- Maps: OpenFreeMap tiles using OpenMapTiles and data © OpenStreetMap contributors.
Not included, because it isn't open data in Alberta: sale prices, land titles and liens, MLS listings, school catchment boundaries, crime statistics, and abandoned well and pipeline locations. Look up wells on the Alberta Energy Regulator's map.
Privacy
- There are no accounts, no advertising and no tracking cookies.
- Visits are counted with Vercel Web Analytics, which doesn't use cookies or identify you. It records things like which pages are viewed and the country and device type, in aggregate.
- Saved briefs, your comparison list and calculator inputs are stored only in your own browser. Clearing your browser data removes them.
- Like any website, the hosting provider (Vercel) briefly keeps standard server logs, including IP addresses, to run the site and protect it from abuse.
- The addresses you search are sent to the City of Calgary's open data service to look them up.
